With the loosened stronghold of Communism after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, religious freedom returned to Eastern Europe, although in varying degrees of positive impact. Just 20 years later, the volatility of economic and politic structures has in some nations brought a return to persecution for religious beliefs. Christian leaders need to step in now to chip away at the challenges of that persecution and to bring a sense of stability to the church before the window of freedom closes again. They greatly need what the Leadership Summit can offer in the way of encouragement and resources.
